Somehow 18 years passed by in a flash, and this September saw you packing your car to bursting point and sending your little one away to university. How did this happen? You’re convinced you were still potty training them what felt like six months ago. You may have spent the whole of this autumn looking nervously at the clock wondering if they’ve remembered to eat or resisting the urge to call them every 15 minutes. One thing’s for sure though, at some point during their first term your son or daughter will make contact from Planet Student and reel off things they forgot to bring with them or realised they need. This Christmas could prove to be an easy one for gifts, but if not, here’s some inspiration.
1) Diary. They might have been good enough to have already got a diary or calendar but, unfortunately, most run out at the end of the year, so you can treat them to a new one. A diary, if used, and not forgotten in a crammed draw, can keep your child organised and stop them from forgetting meetings with tutors and sports fixtures. Some lovely designs for guys and girls can be found at Paperchase. Click here to view their range.
2) Sleeping Bag. This is something they’ll definitely been enquiring about at some point during the term when they realise their mates visiting from home or other units have nowhere to skip. It’ll also come in useful in case they “crash” at another friend’s place on one of those late-night parties that you don’t want to think about, or if they go on trips with societies. 3) Alarm Clock. They may already have missed one but if you find out they’ve missed a few lectures, they might not be getting the message. They’re more likely to remember to set the alarm if their clock is quirky. Click here to check out the cool collection from Lazy Bone. They have everything from bog standard digital clocks to Wallace and Gromit intricate models.
4) Recipe Book. Encourage your budding star student to develop their culinary skills. This may inspire them into being a better cook, eating healthier and buying a wider range of ingredients.
