Earrings are the most basic forms of jewelry in existence. They are attached to the ear through ear piercings. Earrings are worn by both the sexes. Earrings have been popular ever since history has been recorded. Precious metals and gemstones like gold, silver, platinum, diamond, pearls, etc. are used to prepare these sparkling ornaments.
Types of Pearls
Just like the word suggests, pearl earrings are earrings which are studded with pearls. There are different types of pearls used for making earrings and other forms of jewelry:
- Freshwater Pearls – these are grown in mollusks as unlike other pearls which are grown in oysters. These are the most affordable pearls.
- South Sea Pearls – these are large and rare pearls. They have varied colors and hues like glossy white, silky silver, deep golden, etc.
- Akoya Pearls – these are known for their brilliant luster. They are ideal for bridal jewelry.
- Tahitian Pearls – these come in exotic and dark natural colors like black, dark green, blue, brown, grey, etc.
- Biwa Pearls – these are freshwater pearls that are mostly known for their healing properties. They are also known to increase self-confidence and alertness.
- Baroque Pearls – these come in a variety of shapes including that of a coin, square, oval, etc.
How to distinguish between fake and real pearl jewelry?
In the market, fake pearls are often sold in the name of genuine pearls. Thus, before buying you must make sure that the pearls are real and you’re not being duped.
- Real pearls are always colder than the room temperature, unlike fake pearls.
- Real pearls are heavier than fake pearls.
- Real pearls perfectly reflect the light passing through them.
- Real pearls are never perfect in shape and size. Whereas, fake pearls are well-rounded and have identical sizes.
- When rubbed against our teeth, real pearls feel rough and gritty, but that’s not so with the fake ones.
Pearl earrings come in a variety of styles such as drop earrings, hoop earrings, circular earrings, dangler, etc. The most popular and trending style of earrings today is the hook styled-earring.
Pearls are never out of fashion. A pair of elegant and sparkling pearl earrings is a must in every woman’s closet!
