People do some strange things with windows. When it comes to world records, if you can imagine it, then someone has probably already done it. Here we look at world records that have involved windows, whether they are in cars, buildings or window accessories – these records are definitely weird and wonderful!
Most people ‘blowfishing’ a window – Back in July 2010, 23 people took it upon themselves to simultaneously perform a blowfish on the same window at the same time. The students of the iD Tech Villanova University in Pennsylvania still hold the world record.
Most car windows broken by hand in 2 minutes – Kevin Taylor set this record in Istanbul, Turkey in June 2013. He broke a whopping 21 car door windows in 2 minutes just using his hands.
Most gummy bears stuck to the window of a Prius in 2 minutes – Yes, this is actually a world record! In Match 2011, 924 gummy bear sweets were stuck to the window of a Toyota Prius in Los Angeles, California. At least the clean up job would have been tasty.
Most suction-cup animals – Another U.S record was made on the same day in Los Angeles when 34 suction-cup soft animals were stuck to the window of a Prius in 2 minutes. The gummy bear and suction-cup records were part of a two-day event involving the Toyota Prius, which was streamed live over the internet. During the two days, 200 Prius-related records were set, and the event set a record itself, the most records made ever in a 48-hour period.
Most push pins stuck in a window sill – February 2014 saw the world record set for the number of push pins stuck into a window sill. A grand total of 35 were stuck to the sill by a Maria S in Dubai. Why? Nobody knows but the record remains unchallenged.
Longest time balancing a car window brush – The longest time for balancing a car window brush on the back of a hand is held by Doug McManaman of Nova Scotia, Canada. He set the record in June 2013 by balancing the brush on the back of his hand for an impressive 14 minutes and 39.47 seconds.
Fastest window cleaner – This world record was made in the UK by Terry Burrows. In October 2009, he cleaned 3 standard office windows of 45”x45” armed with a squeegee and 9 litres of water in less than 10 seconds! The exact time was 9.1 seconds and this impressive feat took place at the Blackpool National Window Cleaning Competition. You’d want this chap to look after your windows. Most TVs thrown from window – This is a record not to be recommended unless you’re a rock star staying in a hotel! This world record was set in Birmingham in January 2007 and is the most tv sets thrown from a window in 3 minutes. It was completed by 2 staff members of Kerrang! Radio, who threw 61 sets from a window 30 feet above ground level.
