What to do when you fall off a bike!?
As I said before, mountain biking can be dangerous. While it is possible to ride carefully and cautiously, at some point of time in your career, you will fall off your bike.
What to do then?
Well, the first thing to do is learn the correct falling posture. When your bike topples, try to keep your arms in. You may instinctively want to reach out to hold on to something thing, but landing on your hands on a trail can mean a broken wrist or broken collarbone. Override your natural instinct, and keep your arms close to your torso.
For many, what gets damaged the most during a fall is their personal pride. Remember, falling is just a setback, don’t take it your heart. Get up, dust yourself off and continue. Falling once doesn’t mean that you are not good for anything. Everybody falls, champions fall more often than others, that is why they become champions in the first place.
Once you get up, inspect your bike for damages. The seat may have dislocated, the chain may have come. If you can repair your bike on your own, do it, and if not, call it day and head back home.
Always carry a first aid kit for minor scratches and bruises in a backpack. Give yourself first aid immediately and get your diagnoses for anything major later on. If you get a lot of brunt of trail, call someone or 911 for help.
What to do if you can’t ride a trail?
Sooner or later you will come across certain sections of the trail that a mountain bike can’t ride. So, in those situations, you will have to lift your bike and get climb the trail. Remember, you should not be ashamed of walking on a trail. This is a completely acceptable thing to do in mountain biking. In fact some trails have marked hike-a-bike sections. There, you don’t have any other option but to hike your bike.
