There is nothing more annoying than having your favourite TV programme interrupted by a break down in reception. Naturally it tends to happen just at a crucial moment in the programme and causes you to miss a vital part of the show. It can also mean programmes you’ve set to record later simply cannot be watched due to poor quality and intermittent break up of the signal. So, what can you do to rectify the situation? We asked electrical suppliers, Edwardes.
You could alternatively watch the programme online instead but many people want to watch the programme live whilst it’s being broadcast so that won’t be the ideal solution for many.
With digital freeview reception, problems can often happen as a result of the weather, however there are one of two checks that you can do to make sure it is nothing else. Make sure all leads are plugged in securely into both the set top box and the TV.
Does the problem seem to happen when turning another electrical item on or off in the house? Try unplugging any electrical items that aren’t in use as it could be electrical interference that is the cause of the problem.
Try consulting your neighbours to see if they are also having problems. If they can quite happily watch their TV without any issues then it could be your aerial that’s at fault. Digital Aerials are not expensive items, in fact you can purchase a 4G ready outdoor aerial which can be used in 80% of UK locations for around the £21 mark. In fact if you get one with an integrated 4G filter it will prevent channel loss and interference to your TV from 4G mobile phone signals. They are also suitable for installation in the loft if you prefer.
At the end of the day, it can sometimes be difficult to get your head around exactly why you’re having issues with your TV, however by taking a simple methodical approach, it doesn’t need to take too long to diagnose what the problem is.
In some instances, however, the issues will still persist even after your own resolutions and in that case you’ll need to call out an engineer, however by all means have a go at diagnosing yourself first; you could well save yourself a small fortune, even after taking into account the cost of a new aerial.
